JSRS2 is a sound mod that adds tons of sounds to arma 3 including sounds for the vanilla weapons that change depending on location in relation to the gun shots, making fire fights much more immersive. ASDG Joint rails improves the way the rail system works (I think) in Arma 3. Most weapon mods have support for it. A good soldier is fast, exact and effective with his weapon, each of which features realistic ballistics and handling in Arma 3. Zero your weapon to account for bullet drop, adjust your profile to lower your recoil, and fire in short bursts to reduce bullet dispersion. Fail to do so and your enemy may gain the upper hand.

- Tweaking Arma 3

Here is the BIWiki page for the ArmA 3 startup parameters.
To provide an example, the following is what my startup flags look like:
-maxmem=6144 -maxvram=3072 -cpucount=8 -exthreads=7 -nosplash -nofilepatching -skipintro
It has been brought to my attention that the -maxmem flag has no effect so feel free not to use it.
It has been brought to my attention that the -maxmem flag has no effect so feel free not to use it.
For i7's it is also possible to remove -cpucount and -exthreads and replace them with -enable HT
Also using a custom memory allocator is another option that may improve performance.
Please take note that Multiplayer performance is partially dictated by the server and how well the mission is coded. If you are getting bad multiplayer performance please try out a few different servers before asking for help as it is possible you could have joined a bad server.

In addition to the game types, there are different levels of realism. Some servers offer a more hardcore experience with proper chains of command while others are more relaxed and make it easier to just shoot people.

- Mods
The ArmA series is a very community driven game and is open to modification. Most videos uploaded to Youtube by serious players are going to have some level of modification.
Some popular mods that add depth to the game include the sound mod JSRSSpeedofSound, new terrains (A3MP, Clafgan), or total conversions coming soon (Think ACE or Invasion 1944 for ArmA 2).
JSRS adds depth to the sounds of guns and explosions. This allows you to better judge distances. There are also graphics mods such as Blastcore which adds better visual effects to the game.
New players will find the play withSIX application the most convenient way to add mods to the game. Here is a quick tutorial on how to get started with play withSIX. If you would like 'manually' run mods then you can download them from ArmaHolic and enable them through the expansions menu in game or through a shortcut by using the '-mod=@modname;modname1;modname2' flag.

- Teamwork
Teamwork is a major part of the ArmA series as it tends to be more of a military simulator than your typical FPS. Being a simulator, it is not wise to run off and try to 'rambo' missions. Example, if you join a server with 15 people on you should use that to your advantage. Work as a group to complete objectives, follow orders. If your Team Leader is counting on you to lay down suppressive fire to cover your advancing team you should not run off and do something else. If this is the case you may need to find a different game mode to play.
